COMMON COLD


Common Cold
Runway noses, coughy throats, sneezing, watery eyes, scratchy- sore throats and ears, cracked voices, chest pain among others, loss of appetite, headaches and pains, chills, swollen faces and the likes characterize sufferers of this popular ailment prevalent in this wet season.
The initial signs of a cold are a feeling of soreness of the throat and congestion of the nasal passages. Although the disease normally begins in the nose and throat, it may affect all other parts of the body. 

Causal factors include: Exposure to the virus. Its intensity depends on the health of the person and also environmental factors. Exposure to cold, low vitality, dust, changes in temperature, low vitality, exposure to cold, lack of sleep, mental depression, fatigue, changes in temperature, dust and other irritating inhalations such as smoke, soot, monoxides and other toxic elements can wreak unbelievable havoc on our innocent airways.

  • Lemon+ Honey
This citrus fruit is excellent for all kind of cold and mild cases of fever. It increases body resistance to free radicals and air borne microbes and also reduces toxicity and the duration of illnesses in the body.
Vitamin C rich lemon should be diluted in a glass of warm water along with a teaspoon of pure honey. This should be taken once or twice daily as the case may be.


  • Garlic                                              

Belonging to the family of cloves such as: Leeks, onions e.t.c,  garlics having so many health benefits, are one sure way to reduce the severity of  a cold or flu and should be taken once daily.

Garlic contains antibiotic, antifungal, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antibacterial, anti yeast properties. It also possesses anti-inflammatory qualities to reduce redness, swelling and also cure intestinal worms. It can also be used to prevent the onset of colds or flu. This can be done by boiling two or three cloves of chopped garlic in a cup of warm water.

In soup form, the embedded oil is expressed and is very efficient in opening up the
respiratory passages. It helps to flush out toxins and reduce the potency of fever.
Five drops of garlic oil should then be added to a teaspoon of onion juice and diluted in a cup of water which should be drunk two to three times a day.




  • Ginger/Ginger+ Honey

Ginger your stuffy nose by boiling 10 grams of peeled and chopped ginger in a cup of boiled water. Strain it (i.e squeezing out the water from the ginger) and add a teaspoon of honey of sugar to it. The mixture should then be drunk while hot and steaming for utmost efficacy. You could also mix it with tea leaves to calm down fever. Ensure to take twice daily.
